TRAFFORD, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The way 3 year girl Jettie Ray Adams died at her home in Trafford has investigators describing what happened as an unthinkable crime.
According to the coroner, Jettie Adams was beaten to death, and suffered severe blunt force injuries.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian talked to WIAT about what happened to Jettie Adams. He described her short life as violent, and filled with abuse.
He also had strong words to say about the two people they have arrested in connection with her death,
“3-year-old little Jettie Ray Adams died at the hands of the very people who were charged with taking care of her and protecting her,” Christian said.
Christian described what happened at the home in Trafford as one of the most difficult and saddest cases his investigators have ever had to work.
“And if it can get any worse than that she didn’t die instantly. She suffered. We think likely she was feeling sick and went to lay down on that mattress on the porch and if the story can get even more unbelievable no body went to check on her or get her any help or aid,” Christian said.
Christian said they believe the people responsible are Jettie’s mother Misty Wright, and Wright’s boyfriend Jonathan Talley.
He said Sunday night was the last time 3-year-old Jettie was beaten, but it wasn’t the first.
Christian said she had older injuries, and that the final abuse was so severe that it killed her.
Misty Lynn Wright, 23, and Johnathon Wayne Talley, 39, both of Trafford were charged with aggravated child abuse based on evidence discovered during the investigation.
The medical examiner determined the child’s death to be a homicide. She sustained severe internal injuries, which are consistent with those from repeated blows to the chest, abdomen and head.
Both are being held in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond. A capital murder charge is expected of at least one of the suspects, if not both.
